Kletjian Foundation Global Surgery Forum

March 1, 2014

IMG_0072On Saturday, the Kletjian Foundation hosted a conversation with members of the Boston global health and medical community to test a hypothesis on how best to build and foster a Boston-based network for the promotion and further development of the field of Global Surgery.  Attendees were asked to share their overarching goals for Global Surgery as a field and for their individual department or programs.

IMG_0071Boston has established itself as a beacon for institution-level global surgery activity and benefits from a tremendous existing global health infrastructure.  As the recent meeting for the Lancet Commission for Global Surgery affirmed, there is a unique opportunity to embed mechanisms to preserve and improve the spirit of collaboration and information sharing which currently prevails.

IMG_0073The Kletjian Foundation has made its mark previously as a supporter of greater cohesion and academic credibility for Global Surgery through its funding of the Boston Meeting of the Lancet Commission for Global Surgery and the endowment of the Kletjian Chair of Global Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
